i love to talk about the music i like. i grew up with a lot of stuff from the 80s and 90s, a lot of it because of my parents and what they listened to/still listen to! i've always had such a deep love for 80s, 90s, and 2000s rock, punk, new wave, synth pop, gothic, you name it. music like that has always stuck around with me and brings me a strong sense of nostalgia & comfort, like i'm stepping into that era when i blast it in my headphones even though i unfortunately didn't get to live it. my music has definately shaped me as a person, i even like to incoorperate what type of stuff i'm listening to at the time into my outfits sometimes! it's so cool how music can do that to someone if it resonates with them enough lol. :)

Depeche Mode is a British synth-pop/new wave band that began in Basildon, Essex in 1980, and has since then made major musical breakthroughs and heavily influencing pop culture today. Started by Vince Clarke and Andy Fletcher, members Martin Gore and Dave Gahan later joined and they changed their name from Composition of Sound to Depeche Mode. The name was inspired by a french magazine, and over time the meaning has gotten lost in translation. Even back in the day when the band debuted, people assumed the name meant "fast fashion," while the meaning was really "fashion news/fashion update." Becoming overwhelmed by the pressure of success when their song "Just Can't Get Enough" became a hit, Vince Clarke left the band and Martin Gore took charge. It's really cool to me how you can hear the shift in the two albums after this change, going from a more upbeat style to their now infamous darker, industrial, experimental one. They also use religious imagery in their music, for example prayer, the bible, spirit and the soul, blasphemy, saviors & sin, and Christ metaphorically rather than in a literal way that promotes it. Instead, they are used in Depeche Mode's songs to convey the strength and intensity of certain human emotions such as obsession, lust, addiction, etc., which can also be seen in Erasure's lyrics, the band Vince began in 1985 and is still a part of today (love them too eheeh)

I've been a fan of Depeche Mode as far back as elementary school when my dad would be driving me to school and I would beg him to replay "Suffer Well" from their album Playing the Angel over and over again, that and Shadowtime by Siouxsie and the Banshees. My dad was the one who had originally shown me the band, and since then my love for it has just grown! I have 2 of their CDs, The Best of Depeche Mode and Ultra. I definately plan to get more! Right now my favorite songs are "Question of Lust," "New Dress," "Home," (I love how the ending sounds like the ending of "Black" by Pearl Jam, I find it so interesting when I notice that in songs) and "Blasphemous Rumors"! Something I think is really cool about their music is how a lot of their sound samples in the backgrounds of songs, such as "People are People," were just the members banging metal pipes and other random metallic objects together, some they got from going to factories and warehouses just to find the right sound.

Deftones is an American alternative band that formed in the late 80s, and still makes music today. The band's name was a play on the saying "tone deaf," something lead singer Chino Moreno and guitarist Stephen Carpenter came up with as kind of a pun. "Def" was also a popular slang term in hiphop at the time, while "tones" was a popular suffix used in bands and vocal groups in the 1950s. Deftones got together in 1988 but didn't begin creating music until 1992, when their first album (although it was an unofficial demo album) "(Like) Linus" released. After that came Adrenaline, the album that became the staple of their career in the 90s (and still is today) with how big grunge and alternative music was back then. Albums that were realeased after that were very experimental and all over the place, which in my opinion, just adds to the charm of the band. One song can be super loud with tons of screaming and guitar, then the next song can be all dreamy and wistful. Chino Moreno's vocals add to the feeling, with his signature whisper-screaming vocals that almost have a kind of reverb to them. One of my favorite albums, White Pony, has an example; the first song on the album, "Feiticeira," has those soft yet intense lyrics on top of loud guitar, then a harsh whisper on top of that ("soon I'll let you go, soon I'll let you go"). It's so unique and addictive to listen to, it really makes me feel like I'm floating when I listen to this album. I love how I'm able to just zone out and listen when I play Deftones, and honestly, the louder the better. >:D

I can't remember how long I've been a fan of Deftones, it hasn't been my entire life although I do remember hearing it a couple times when I was younger. During covid I rediscovered them and started listening to them more exclusively, mainly Around the Fur. I loved the moodiness of the album and I remember obsessing over the guitar in "Shut up and Drive," and wanting to hear more. I was introduced to Koi No Yokan and Saturday Night Wrist a little later on and loved "Entombed," "Rosemary," "Tempest," and "Beware," and from that point on I haven't stopped listening. I do really love their new album too, my favorite song has to be "My Mind is a Mountain."
